The Veneto plain is crossed by some of the most important Italian rivers, from south to north, the Po, the Adige, (or) Brenta, the (or) Piave, Livenza and Tagliamento, as well as a artificial series of drainage channels and irrigation.

Approaching the plain to the sea mingles with some of the most interesting areas amphibious and extensive in Italy, such as the Po Delta (is a regional park) and the Laguna Veneta, limited to the south from the mouth of the Brenta at Chioggia and north of the River Sile , flowing in the ancient river bed of the Piave; to the north lies the lagoon of Caorle, isolated today from the lagoon of Venice, but once integrated in the same lagoon system stretching from Ravenna to Grado.

To the west, on the border between the Veneto, Lombardy and Trentino, lies the basin of Lake Garda, the largest Italian lake.
