City of Naples (Campania - Italy)
Naples 970.185 is a common coastal inhabitants, located 17 meters above sea level in the homonymous province, its territory covers an area of 117,27 sq km.
Naples, a city with a thousand faces
shadow the Vesuvius tourism's roots: in the footsteps of great greek columns refined aristocrats and roman emperors built their sumptuous villas and oasis all along the shoreline of the Gulf.
It is no coincidence that the peculiar magic of this ancient civilization continues to generate, at the dawn of the third millennium, more and new sources of amazement: recovery of old monuments and traditions - folklore, gastronomy, genuine cultivation - that were thought irreparably lost, events and shows worthy of the great international circuit, new fodder for artistic and scientific research.
They do not count, in Naples, the art treasures to visit: the old town, protected by UNESCO World Heritage; palaces, churches, catacombs and underground routes, the Archaeological Museum; the places of medieval and renaissance power amassed around the Castel Nuovo and Royal Palace; the unforgettable waterfront from Castel dell'Ovo to Posillipo.
The hilly area of Vomero offers masterfully restored buildings in an exemplary manner in the Royal Palace of Capodimonte and the Certosa di San Martino, museum collections of the most important in the world.
A path in the twentieth century the city leads, among many urban and architectural buildings of note, to the rationalist architecture of the Overseas Exhibition, the park and the sports facilities and exposure; a short distance, the Science City testifies to the recovery of industrial architecture systems and the originality of a scientific tradition that renews itself.
Unusual and surprising, finally, the exploration of new contemporary art: monumental buildings such as the PAN, Palazzo delle Arti Napoli; the Mother, Museum of Contemporary Art Donnaregina; a unique admired throughout the world as the art of metro stations, tangibly illustrate the original horizons of a last-sighted cultural policy.
Napoli, ultimately, remains to the end, despite the difficulties and contradictions common to all big cities, a reality out of the ordinary, to live, admire, enjoy, with all your senses: for the thickness of art and of civilization that indelibly marked his story; for its mild climate, accompanying day and night shows, theater festivals, music, exhibitions, fairs, religious events; for his delicious opportunity to discover a centuries-old culinary tradition, the flavors of the sea and the unique local products (buffalo mozzarella, the pizza, the DOCG wines, fine pastries and varied) in all the wise variations of the many historic local or of the most unexpected and hidden workshops.
